Camila Grey (nata Camila Cristinna Gutierrez il 6 Gennaio 1979 ad Austin, Texas) è una musicista di Los Angeles che fa parte del duo Uh Huh Her. Camila è precedentemente stata bassista e tastierista della band Mellowdrone. Ha lavorato anche con artisti come Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Tricky, Melissa Auf der Maur e Kelly Osbourne. Attualmente suona le tastiere nella band di Adam Lambert.
Camila Grey talks touring with Adam Lambert and what's up for Uh Huh Her in 2011
Last week, LA’s Club Nokia sparkled, shined and echoed all night with all the glitter and glamour that only Adam Lambert can deliver. After an amazing show I caught up with Camila Grey of Uh Huh Her, who has been on the road for the past nine months playing keyboard on Lambert’s GlamNation International Tour.
AfterEllen: What will you miss the most about touring with Adam? Camilla Grey: I'll definitely miss the spontaneity of seeing new places and meeting cool people along the way. That's my favorite part of touring. Every corner you turn, there's some adventure waiting.
AE: What is the thing you will miss the least? CG: Sleeping on a tour bus with 12 other people — or, rather, never sleeping. AE: What was most inspiring about the tour? CG: I think the most inspiring thing about doing this tour was playing for a guy with such incredible vocal ability. It was exciting for me to be up there every night and witness such a raw talent. I also love that he is so unapologetic about who he is. AE: Did you encounter a lot of UHH fans in Adam's audience? CG: Yes! I even saw people with UHH T-shirts on! They came out and supported, which was great. AE: What are your plans now that you are back? CG: I'm going to sleep for two months straight. No, actually now that I'm back I'll be working on the release of our sophomore album with UHH. It's been a long time in the making because we really wanted to take the time to create something special for our fans. We've got all sorts of album packages and goodies coming their way, so it will be exciting to release it finally! We're planning on putting that out in March of 2011, with a tour to follow.

AfterEllen: Cosa ti mancherà di più del tour con Adam? Camilla Grey: Mi mancherà sicuramente vedere nuovi posti, incontrare nuova gente. Quella è la mia parte preferita del tour. Dietro ad ogni angolo c’è qualche avventura che ti aspetta.
AE: Qual è la parte che ti mancherà di meno? CG: Dormire sul tour bus con altre 12 persone – o meglio, non dormire proprio.
AE: Qual è la cosa che ti ha ispirata di più del tour? CG: Penso che la cosa che ispiri di più di tutto questo tour sia suonare per un ragazzo che abbia capacità vocali così incredibili. Era eccitante per me salire sul palco ogni sera ed essere testimone del puro talento di Adam. Amo anche il fatto che non si scusi mai per essere se stesso.

AE: Hai incontrato molti fan del tuo gruppo, UHH, durante l’avventura con Adam? CG: Sì! Ho anche visto delle persone con le magliette degli UHH! Sono venuti al concerto e hanno supportato, il che è fantastico!
AE: Quali sono i tuoi piani, adesso che sei tornata? CG: Dormirò per due mesi di fila. No, a dire il vero sto lavorando alla release del secondo album con gli UHH. Ci abbiamo messo tanto, perché volevamo creare qualcosa di speciale per i nostri fan. Abbiamo ogni tipo di pacchetto e regalo per loro, quindi sarà fantastico riuscire finalmente a farlo uscire! Stiamo pianificando di rilasciarlo a Marzo 2011 e ci sarà un tour che lo seguirà.

Qual'è stata la cosa più folle di cui tu sei stata testimone durante il Glam Nation Tour con Adam Lambert?
Oh, mio Dio. Hai a disposizione due settimane? C'è qualcosa che non ho visto?! Probabilmente la cosa più divertente di quel tour è stata questa cosa che Adam si è inventato, chiamata "tongue diving" dove lui dal palco sceglieva dal pubblico una ragazzo carino o una ragazza, e iniziava a pomiciarci. L'intero tour è stato assurdo e così divertente ed è stato un anno fantastico. Sono stata in giro con lui per un anno. Io non credo che le persone realizzino quanto divertente Adam Lambert sia. Cioè, personalmente credo che le persone lo vedano come un musicista serio e meditabondo, ma nella realtà lui potrebbe tranquillamente essere un comico- seriamente. Siamo stati ogni giorno in una città differente tra gli US e l'Europa e ci siamo divertiti così tanto. Ora io sto lavorando con lui sul suo prossimo album - Ho scritto una canzone e ne sto producendo un'altra. Gli voglio così bene - lui è come un fratello per me, davvero.
Che cosa puoi dirci riguardo il nuovo album di Adam?
Be', ho scritto questa canzone, "Dreamer", qualche anno fa' e da allora sono stata in cerca di una voce importante e potente che potesse cantarla. Inizialmente avrebbe dovuto cantarla Christina Aguilera, ma poi non è successo così quando ho iniziato a pensare a una canzone adatta per Adam ho pensato "ma certo!" è perfetta per lui. L'ho coprodotta con Brad Thomas Ackley, il quale ha lavorato su Black & Blue e Nocturnal insieme a noi e, anche se non arriverà alla versione finale dell'album, io non posso fare a meno di pensare "oh mio Dio!" Avere una persona con un tale calibro di voce e acoltarla fare propria una canzone che tu personalmente hai scritto... Spero DAVVERO che arriverà alla versione ultima dell'album, è qualcosa di così sorprendente. Lui sta lavorando con questi grandi produttori come Pharrel e poi ci siamo... noi. [ridendo]
What’s the craziest thing you witnessed on the Glam Nation Tour with Adam Lambert?
Oh my god. Do you have two weeks? What didn’t I see?! Probably the funniest thing from that tour was this thing Adam coined called “tongue diving” where he’d be on stage and pick out a cute guy or girl int he crowd, and start making out with them. That whole tour was crazy and so fun and it was just an amazing year. I was on the road with him for a year. I don’t think people realize how hilarious Adam Lambert is. Like, I think people see him as this serious, brooding musician but in reality, he could be a comedian – for real. We’d be in a different city in the US and Europe every day and we just had so much fun. I’m working with him now on his new record – I wrote one song and I’m producing another. I just love him – he’s like a brother to me, really.
What can you tell us about Adam’s new album?
Well, I wrote this song I love called “Dreamer” a few years ago and had been looking for a huge, powerful voice to sing it. Originally Christina Aguilera was supposed to sing it, but that didn’t happen so when I started thinking of songs for Adam it was just like “of course!” It’s perfect for him. I co-produced it with Brad Thomas Ackley who worked on Black & Blue and Nocturnes with us and and, even if it doesn’t make his final album I’m just like, oh my god! To have someone with that caliber voice and hear them do little tricks on on a song you wrote.. I REALLY hope it makes his album, it just sounds so amazing. He’s working with these big, huge producers like Pharrell, and then it’s like… us [laughing]
